RKO, Columbia y, sobre todo, Warner Bros consumieron lo esencial de su labor como director. Fue para la ultima para la que realizo sus mejores peliculas, y tambien sus mejores westerns. Probablemente la obra maestra de Douglas sea su filme fantastico La humanidad en peligro (Them!, 1954), producto modesto pero de una intensidad casi nunca alcanzada en el cine de ciencia-ficcion.
